"RUN UP" has a very energetic and vibrant sound. What were the main inspirations behind this track, and what emotions did you want to convey?
I wanted to capture that specific feeling of 'forward motion, no matter the cost.' For me, the inspiration wasn’t a specific song as much as it was an environment—think high-speed chases through a rain-slicked industrial district.. and maybe a little Tape B lol. The emotional vibe is a cool, confident, and powerfully laid back vibe, like there’s this chase, but we already know the outcome.“
Compared to your previous work, how did your approach to music production change with "RUN UP"? Did you experiment with anything new?
In the past, I’ve focused a lot more on drums and synths, trying to get a clean electronic song. With RUN UP, I experimented with the vocals… a lot. Much of the work went into letting the bass remain crunchy and loud while engineering the vocals just right to cut through. I think the vocals themselves operated as more of a stereo’d instrument rather than just having them loud and center like a normal rap track.
Your music often reflects deep personal and identity-related themes. How does your personal experience influence the messages you want to communicate through your tracks?
I’m an odd ball (although I guess all artists would say this). I love to learn, making me a jack of all trades and a master of none. It's cool in some ways but often difficult to really find like minded people who see the world the same way as you do. D3LT4 represents a secretive organization full of agents, all unique, versatile personalities who are relentless and proficient at mastering their craft. I hope the music and visuals bring the listener into this world where they can feel right at home, no matter how out of the ordinary they may feel.
You’ve collaborated with several artists recently. Which collaboration left a special impact on you, and what can we expect from your future projects?
Oof, I love all my people. I’d have to say the ‘FLEX’ project with Baby Dami. I love his vibes and his vocals, and I think everything came together just right to really create something unique and hard hitting. I’m a big fan of crisp vocals so I’d be on the look out for more vocal collabs as time goes on.
What are some of the most meaningful feedback you’ve received about RUN UP, and how do you plan to incorporate it into your live performances or upcoming releases?
People really seem to love the vocals and the lyrics on this one. The vocals were cool for me, but I really just wrote the lyrics and recorded the audio to use as another instrument on the track, not a central focus. I even mixed them a little differently than traditional vocals. But people really loved em’ and it definitely gave me a little more confidence. I don’t really intend to vocalize every track that I make, but it definitely inspires me to throw some more vocals down in the future :) .
