In conversation with Senior Massie

With years of experience on stage and in the studio, Nottingham-based producer and DJ Craig Massie is opening a new chapter with Senior Massie. Originally launched in late 2025 as a duo with close friend Rik Senior, the project has since become Craig’s solo creative outlet, retaining its name as a tribute to the friendship that started it all.
A touring musician and professional live guitarist since his teenage years, Massie brings a rich musical background to his growing passion for electronic music. His debut track, “Esta Loca,” earned an early spotlight on BBC Radio 1 Dance with Jaguar, while mastering engineer Janne Hatula, better known as FANU, has come on board to help shape the sound of his releases.
That vision now extends beyond his own productions. Through RNXY Records and its accompanying event series, RNXY Live, Massie is laying the foundations for a platform connecting emerging artists and audiences, with Nottingham’s NG-One nightclub hosting its first events. We caught up with him to explore the roots of Senior Massie, his approach to production, and the ambitions driving this next chapter.
Launched in late 2025, Senior Massie began as a collaboration between two friends brought together by shared musical tastes. While Massie focused on production and studio work, Rik Senior contributed his experience as a DJ across the UK and Ibiza. That complementary partnership gave the project its starting point, and although Massie now continues independently, he remains grateful for Rik’s early involvement. Their friendship remains close, with the possibility of another collaboration in the future.
Years spent touring as a musician and working as a professional live guitarist continue to inform Massie’s approach to electronic music. Beyond musical experience, that background has given him a clearer understanding of consistency, studio workflow and the work that happens behind the scenes when releasing records. Senior Massie is now the outlet through which he puts those lessons into practice.
An encouraging early milestone came when his debut release, "Esta Loca", received support from Jaguar on BBC Radio 1 Dance. For Massie, the recognition offered reassurance that his music was moving in the right direction and connecting with listeners.
Collaboration also plays a practical role in refining his sound. FANU, whose credits include John Summit and The Weeknd, has been mastering some of his tracks, providing feedback on mix balance before applying the final polish. Having that trusted perspective helps Massie avoid getting caught in endless minor revisions and gives him confidence that a finished track is ready for release.
His ambitions extend beyond the artist project through RNXY Records and RNXY Live. Initially, the label provides a home for his own releases, allowing him to shape both the music’s presentation and the campaign surrounding it. Over time, he hopes to welcome other emerging producers and give their work a platform.
RNXY Live brings that ambition into the club environment. Working closely with the team at NG-One in Nottingham, Massie is developing a space that can also offer artists opportunities to perform. Together, the label and event brand reflect a broader goal: building a community where new talent can release music, gain visibility and connect with audiences.
