Juan Hansen shares live set from Gardens of Babylon

Argentine composer, producer and live artist Juan Hansen has released a 90-minute recording of his recent Gardens of Babylon performance at Bodhi Beach, Zandvoort, on August 1.

The set offers an early look at Ultrasonido, Hansen’s debut album, due August 28 on his own Ultrasonido label. Rather than simply recreating the record, the performance shows how the material changes in a live setting, with electronic production, guitars, vocals, synthesizers and improvisation moving together throughout the set.

The album brings together Hansen’s background in composition with his work in electronic music, balancing organic textures, hypnotic rhythms and cinematic elements. Three tracks have already been released: "Ninjas", "Gambeta" and "Neon Maze".

Based in Buenos Aires, Hansen developed his live approach around Ableton Live, combining loops and live instrumentation in performances that shift constantly from one moment to the next. His background includes classical studies at the Conservatorio Juan José Castro and contemporary music at EMC in Buenos Aires, while his international performances have included stages alongside Dixon, Hernán Cattáneo, Adriatique, Paul Kalkbrenner, Jan Blomqvist and others.

The Gardens of Babylon set is available now on YouTube, ahead of the August 28 release of Ultrasonido.
