Maxim Lany: "Producing music is a never-ending journey"
Maxim Lany is a Belgian DJ and producer known for his unique sound, which has made him a prominent figure in the electronic music scene both in Belgium and internationally. He has performed across Europe and Asia, building a strong reputation. A regular guest at events like Tomorrowland, Extrema Outdoor, and WeCanDance, Maxim has released music on labels such as Bedrock Records, Kittball, and We Play House, and is now signed to Armada Electronic Essentials. His tracks are supported by artists like Solomun, Kölsch, Agoria, and Tale Of Us.
"Tigra" is part of the compilation on Armada Chill. How does it feel to be part of such a prestigious label, and what opportunities do you think it might offer you?
I have been lucky to be able and call Armada home for many years now, we started working together back in 2019. It feels like a genuine family thing and I have always been able to keep my artistic freedom which means a lot.
Your musical style is described as a "one-of-a-kind soundscape". What are your main musical influences, and how do they reflect in your productions?
Other musical genres influence me the most. I try to keep things minimal, deep and honest. I always go back to when I started listening to music and to the first step I took as a young DJ. I try to keep things open and without any boundaries when it comes to producing new music.
After the success of "Renaissance", how do you manage the expectations from both yourself and your audience for your future works? Do you feel pressured, or do you see this challenge as an opportunity?
Renaissance is already a couple of years old, I initially wrote it back in 2018 and got released in March 2019. So for me that record is a part of my legacy but I consider producing music as a never ending journey and process where I keep learning and reinvent myself. So the pressure is more about delivering as a genuine artist than it is to follow up a successful record from the past.
You've had the chance to perform on significant stages around the world. Is there a particular venue or festival that you dream of playing, and why?
There are always the stages or the venues one has never played which seem impossible or untouchable but I like to relive certain moments and thus I am more a fan of revisiting clubs or festivals where the sets have been memorable. Two of my favorite ones are Klein Phonix in Istanbul and Bar Americas in Guadalajara.
What messages or themes do you hope to convey through your music, and how do you think your latest single "Tigra" reflects these intentions?
I always go for the truth behind the feelings and I always want to bring people closer together when I play or create music. And yes I absolutely think Tigra is doing that exact same thing.
