Renegade Soundwave - The Phantom (Carl Cox Rewire) [Jack Said What]

Carl Cox puts Renegade Soundwave’s "The Phantom" back to work with a faster breakbeat and a forceful bassline. Released on Jack Said What, his Rewire retains the rough character of the 1989 original, adding urgency to its mix of rave percussion, dub weight and punk attitude.

Barry Ashworth of Dub Pistols supplies the new chant, bringing a coarse vocal presence to the dub treatment. Against the bass and broken rhythm, it adds an unruly human edge. Cox keeps these central elements in focus, letting their interaction carry the track.

The second half builds towards a climax, putting the early pressure to good use. Cox’s affection for the original comes through in a rework centred on the friction between beat, bass and voice. "The Phantom" still has plenty of bite, and this version gives it room to cause trouble again.
