Konstantin Sibold explores new horizons with "Lost In Space"

This week, German producer and DJ Konstantin Sibold released his latest work: the "Lost In Space" EP, a project that blends danceable rhythms with dark, profound soundscapes across three tracks that explore the dualism of light and darkness. What makes this EP truly unique is its source of inspiration: not a real journey through space, but rather eight years of university studies in aerospace engineering. This academic journey, undertaken at the University of Stuttgart, has had a profound impact on Sibold's style and his approach to music.
The EP opens with the title track "Lost In Space", created in collaboration with Brazilian artist KAF3R. The track merges big-room melodies, orchestrated synths, and robotic vocals that alternate with carefully placed silences. KAF3R's contribution brings a distinct sensitivity to the composition, creating a "yin and yang" atmosphere that balances rhythm and emotion, making the track ideal for the dancefloor while imbuing it with expressive depth.
Next comes "The Arrival", a track defined by a hypnotic, driving beat enriched with choral chanting and an enveloping bassline. This piece serves as an invitation to dive deeper into the EP’s sonic journey, with a melody that feels welcoming but carries an undertone of unease.
The EP concludes with "Dark Matter", a track where dark tones dominate, creating a dense and unsettling atmosphere. Sporadic, fragmented vocals increase the sense of tension, bringing the contrast between light and dark to its peak, leaving listeners suspended in a mysterious and unreachable space.
But what does aerospace engineering have to do with electronic music? Konstantin Sibold, who attended the University of Stuttgart for eight years, shares how this academic path helped shape his creative approach. Throughout his studies, Sibold developed a rigorous, problem-solving mindset that he applies to music production. "I enjoyed studying something scientific, tackling mathematical challenges, and learning advanced physics", he explains. This background allowed him to expand his "toolbox" and to master the technical side of music production with precision.
Yet the pull of music was always too strong to ignore. Sibold’s passion for music began at age eleven, and he started producing at a young age, initially recording on tape because he didn’t have a CD burner. His university years provided the time and space to refine his style, enabling him to experiment and find his unique sound. However, academia never felt like his true "home"; each night, he would spend hours in the studio, often arriving at university on just two to four hours of sleep after a night of music-making.
As he neared the end of his studies, Sibold faced a tough decision: finish his thesis and complete his degree or leave university to fully dedicate himself to music. Since 2013, he had been touring internationally every weekend, and focusing on academics would mean giving up an already established music career. As we know, music ultimately won. Sibold left university behind and pursued his career as a DJ and producer, never looking back.
With "Lost In Space", Konstantin Sibold manages to synthesize these two seemingly opposite worlds. His musical sensitivity combined with scientific discipline delivers a sonic experience that resonates with exploration, both internal and cosmic. The three tracks on the EP are a journey through the mind of an artist who has transformed his academic experience into a musical work that echoes the vastness of the universe, honoring the field of aerospace engineering that, though only temporary, left an indelible mark on his artistic career.
