SINAN: "I think classical music helped me understand music"
Sinan Abdel Moati, known as SINAN, is a musician and producer from Haifa. He began playing guitar at the age of nine and trained in classical music at the Rubin Conservatory. His passion for electronic music led him to create a unique style that blends classical influences with modern elements. SINAN's music has gained recognition from international radio, DJs, and labels like Magic Island Records and Cafe De Anatolia. With innovative performances, including those on Beatport Live, he stands out in the electronic music scene.
"Shwy Shwy" marks an important collaboration with MIR Music. How did this partnership come about, and how has the label’s support influenced the creative process of this EP?
It all started with a demo submission to a pool of labels on Proton as I was not sure which label would be the most fit to the music, especially when one of the tracks has arabic lyrics. As MIR showed interest in releasing it I figured out the history of the label and releases with artists I like, for example Ziger & D-formation, I felt the sound of this EP fits their style and concept but there was no involvement of the label in the creative process while I was working on the EP.
The title "Shwy Shwy" has an intriguing and mysterious sound. What does it mean to you, and how does it connect to the theme or atmosphere of the EP?
"Shwy Shwy" means slowly slowly in Arabic, which is a common saying when things work out when they are taken slowly, especially when we are uncertain regarding things that happen within us or around us. Furthermore we shouldn't rush love and relationships especially when it's the most tempting to do so and the sound I was trying to bring demonstrated that vibe.
You began your musical training with classical guitar at the Rubin Conservatory. How does this strong classical foundation influence your approach to modern electronic production?
I think classical music helped me understand music, the theory behind it especially when you play an instrument, you are faster with creating melodies on the spot by just grabbing the guitar and start playing without being dependent on a machine or a computer to start creating melodies and riffs. There were many tracks I started after I had an Idea or I jammed something on my guitar just to get a sense of a melodic Idea that I can later on create with a different sound, that can be acoustic or electronic doesn't really matter.
Your style is a blend of classical and contemporary influences. What is your vision on how these two worlds can coexist or even push the boundaries of electronic music?
I think the combination would always sound exciting in contrast to music that are mainly created with electronic instruments, adding a touch of classical and contemporary music to electronic sounds would always sound fresh and would give a sense of nostalgia to the track.
As part of Berlin’s music scene, how do you manage to stand out and bring your unique identity to such a competitive and dynamic environment?
I'm happy to have multiple releases with promising labels in berlin such as YOMO Records and Languages Music known mainly in the Melodic / Progressive House genre, which I had the chance to be part of and release with at their early stages up until today. As I have my own style specially coming with classical and middle eastern influences I like to believe that I am bringing fresh electronic music that sounds different than other tracks being influenced mainly by what sounds common on the dancefloor.
