Danny Murano, DJ and producer, started his career at 15 in a youth center and later made his mark at the iconic Cave Club in Salzburg. In 2001, he founded Subforce, a label and booking agency that has been his creative home ever since. Performing across Europe, Asia, and Russia, his style blends techno, deep tech, progressive house, and downtempo. His sets are a musical journey—fresh, organic, and meticulously crafted, with a focus on quality and energy. Whether as a main act or a warm-up, Danny always knows how to surprise and captivate the crowd with his distinctive sound.
Your new track "Scientifical" is already receiving great feedback. What inspired its creation, and how did you choose the artists for the remixes?
The inspiration for this track was to portray the difficult journey that all DJs/producers must go through to stay relevant, constantly reinventing themselves in order to be heard and booked. Welcome to the shark tank. The remixes were simply requested by the stream based on mutual appreciation; most of them are friends, and I like their production and DJ style. Each remixer represents a different electronic music style, which was very important to me, as I DJ across underground electronic music genres myself. I love everything from downtempo and melodic progressive house and techno to raw, driving, energetic dark techno. From soft to hard, but never cheesy. I’m very happy about the great feedback from artists around the world.
You've been active in the electronic music scene for many years. How have you seen it evolve, and what are the main differences compared to when you first started?
I started DJing in the early 2000s. Back then, the technology was different, and there was no social media or Beatport. I started with vinyl and had to travel 200km by train every two months just to go vinyl shopping. The booking strategy was more focused on music and skills. The cost of making a name for yourself as a DJ was also different, as was obtaining music. These days, you have to be everything from a social media expert to a dancer, etc. Every generation has its own challenges. Unfortunately, I currently see less emphasis on musical achievement and more focus on image-oriented skills, with fewer good productions.
Your DJ sets focus heavily on track selection and storytelling. What’s the secret to creating an engaging musical journey for the audience?
Magic happens when there is a proper sound system and I’m in a good mood. A huge selection of tracks on the USB is a must-have. For big shows, I prepare, but I mostly select my tracks during the sets. If the audience gets on the train, everything falls into place on its own. In my case, it’s about just being real on stage.
Subforce has been your long-term project, both as an event and booking agency. What are your future plans for Subforce, and how do you see its role in today’s electronic music scene?
Yes, that’s right. Right now, the next projects are focusing on my production. For bookings, I’ll be more involved with the artist roster of my friends' label, Leisure Music Productions, where I sign a lot of my stuff. I’m also planning to run my own nights and a beach club next season with my local Indian Panthers from Goa in Goa.
You’ve played at clubs and festivals all over the world. Is there a particular experience or event that left a lasting impression on you?
There are so many great places around the world where I’ve played, it’s hard to say, really. But I’m a big fan of the Indian crowd—they have this fire for music, and especially Goa, which feels like my second home during the winter months. I love the international vibes there. I’m also a big fan of Asia.
