TWOFACED: "Yearning encapsulates a feeling that’s hard to describe"

TWOFACED is a New Zealand-based duo shaping their own path in contemporary dance music. Driven by a shared passion for club culture and forward-thinking production, they move effortlessly between high-impact rave cuts, emotional melodic house, and trance-influenced sounds.

Their distinctive style has quickly gained international attention, earning support from names such as Calvin Harris, KETTAMA, DJ Heartstring, X Club, and Daria Kolosova, who have played their music on some of the world’s biggest stages.

With a sound that continues to evolve and a growing presence across the global scene, TWOFACED are only just getting started.

Let’s start from the beginning: how did two producers from New Zealand end up deeply embedded in the UK/EU hard house scene, and what was the original spark that led to the formation of TWOFACED?

Just under 4 years ago we started to become inspired by Australian artists such as Mall Grab and the lads from X Club. This completely opened our eyes to the genre and we were instantly obsessed with it. We had already been Producing and DJing under separate aliases in drum and bass, but decided we wanted to come together as one and start this new journey as TWOFACED.

Your recent release "Yearning" marks a new chapter in your sound—how would you describe your evolution compared to earlier work, and what were you aiming to express with this track?

This track for us felt as if we finally found the sound and direction we want to push as TWOFACED. "Yearning" encapsulates a feeling for us that's hard to describe in words, from the reactions we've received back from the track we are stoked to see that it’s resonating with others too.

Your recent EU tour saw you supporting artists like Morgan Seatree and Oppidan, as well as a major set at BLOCK in Dublin—what kind of energy did that run give you, and what stands out most from that experience?

This recent UK/EU run gave us the confidence not only in performing but also in our own production. Seeing people come to our shows on the other side of the world and singing back our songs, even unreleased, was an unbelievable feeling. Our motivation has reached a new high and this has led to us producing some of our best work yet which we can't wait to share.

You’ve already shared stages with names such as MALL GRAB, KETTAMA, DJ HEARTSTRING, and X CLUB.—how have these experiences shaped your approach to both DJ sets and production?

Being able to meet and also experience sets from these guys was unreal. What really stood out to us was the importance of playing what we want to play. Sometimes you can get caught up in trying too hard to play a different style to suit the event, lineup, venue etc. But people are there for us and it's important to show them the true sound TWOFACED is about.

Looking ahead, with upcoming EU dates—including a billing at Sammy Virji curates Finsbury Park, plus confirmed shows in Italy, the UK, Croatia, and the Netherlands—where do you feel the project is heading next, and what can we expect from this next chapter?

These upcoming dates are at some places we've always dreamed of going to, let alone playing at. We cannot wait to set sail on this tour and showcase all the new production we've been working on. With that you can expect us to continue consistently releasing new music.
