Essence of Time is the musical project of French DJ, producer, and musician Michel Saurin, known for his powerful and melodic approach to techno. Hailing from the French Riviera, Michel blends deep grooves, percussive energy, and dynamic textures to create tracks designed to move the dancefloor, striking a balance between intensity and sophistication. With a background as a drummer and percussionist, he brings a unique rhythmic depth to his productions. Active since 2015, he has released numerous singles and remixes, including the acclaimed "Not Alone", which has surpassed 7 million streams worldwide.

Hi Michel, your new single "Apollo" with Isabel Sorling & Jim has been well received, especially with the remix by Wielki. How did this project come about, and what inspired the sound of "Apollo"?

The project "Apollo" started from a common idea with Isabel and Jim when they came to the south of France to spend a week of workshop in my studio. The main lyrics came from Isa inspiration, Jeem stick to it , and I with the music instrumental.

You have a strong jazz background, which has influenced your musical style. How has your experience with drums and percussion shaped your approach to electronic music and your productions?

Indeed, I played the drums for 18 years, percussion for the same amount of time, it gives certainly a different approach in term of rhythmics and pattern creation, I like to associate organic sounds along with electronic ones, I also use a lot of FX on top like reverb delays, etc.

Your music is known for its spiritual approach and the use of healing frequencies. How do you manage to blend these influences into your productions while still maintaining the right energy for the dancefloor?

That is core of my work. I always been interested in the fact that healing frequencies works:

modern science has begun to recognize what ancient mystics and wisemen have told us for centuries, that everything is in a constant state of vibration.

Everything down to the smallest physical particle, to the things we cannot perceive with our limited senses, everything has an optimum range of vibration, frequency, and that rate is called resonance. Those frequencies are a part of what’s called the "sacred solfeggio".

Meaning that listening to music with such frequency tuned to those specific frequencies will make you feel better and even heal you on an atomic level. All my work sits on adding some healing frequencies on the backgrounds of my productions, and re-tuning my synthesizers in order to match those frequencies with the notes I play.

It’s a bit of a process, but it makes a big difference for the listener. The energy from my track come from the arrangement and the rhythmic parts, but all is tuned to match the sacred frequency chose.

You’ve had your work supported by major artists like Solomun, Lee Burridge, ect.. How does it feel to receive such recognition from such influential figures in the electronic music scene? Are there any future collaborations you’re dreaming of?

Yes, I had several artists that played my productions, it’s fun because it gives me the feedback that the track is good, but I’m not really into the fame of big names. What really touches me is when the Dancefloor is responding when I play my own track.
