Handysize’s debut single "14 Knots" has a subject you rarely encounter in electronic music: the women working aboard cargo ships. Behind the name is Antoine Grisay, co-founder of the maritime platform Shipfix. The track and its accompanying video are dedicated to women at sea, with the film looking beyond the officer’s uniform to the person wearing it.
The title is well chosen. Fourteen knots suggests a vessel moving at a steady pace, and gives the release a sense of purpose without turning its subject into a slogan. It is an unusual meeting of dance music and maritime life, made more personal by Grisay’s direct connection to that world.
