Kyparis is a Philadelphia-based project founded by a producer from Thessaloniki, Greece. With a strong foundation in software development and engineering, Kyparis explores the intersection of technology and emotion, blending innovation with artistic expression. Although early in his career, he has gained support from notable artists including Korolova, Agents of Time, The Element, AgainstAllOdds, and Emiliano Demarco, and while rooted in melodic house and techno, Kyparis continually experiments, drawing inspiration from a diverse range of genres and influences.

Your background in software development and engineering is quite unique for a producer—how does it influence your approach to sound design and music production?

My technical background shapes the way I think about music. As a software engineer, you learn to break complex problems into smaller components, iterate quickly, and experiment. I bring that same mindset into sound design—treating each element of a track like a system that needs to be engineered with intention. I love building custom chains, automations, and sometimes even small tools or scripts to streamline my workflow.

Your latest single "Time Is Now" on Astral Records carries a very distinctive atmosphere—how did it come about, and what message were you hoping to convey with the track?

“Time Is Now” began as an idea centered around movement, both emotional and physical. I wanted to create a track that felt like a shift, like something inside you is pushing forward. The atmosphere came from blending a darker atmosphere with textures of the vocal and the melody that slowly drives you to the four on the floor. For me, the track represents a moment of clarity, that point when you stop overthinking and finally act. The message is simple but powerful—whatever you’re aiming for, the right moment isn’t sometime in the future. It’s now.

Being born in Thessaloniki and now based in Philadelphia, how have these two very different cultural and musical environments shaped your artistic identity?

Growing up in Thessaloniki exposed me to a rich mix of both traditional and modern music, a culture where creativity is part of everyday life. There’s a warmth and melodic sensitivity I carry from that environment. Moving to Philadelphia brought me into a completely different energy—more experimental, diverse, and open to blending genres. The contrast between the two has been really influential.

You’ve already gained support from respected artists like Korolova and Agents of Time—how important is this recognition for you at this early stage of your journey?

It means a lot, not just because they’re artists I admire, but because their support shows me that the direction I’m pursuing resonates beyond my own circle. At this stage, recognition like this fuels confidence and helps open doors that would otherwise take years to reach. But at the same time, I see it as motivation rather than validation—it encourages me to keep refining my sound, stay consistent, and push for longevity rather than quick wins.

While your sound is rooted in melodic house and techno, you draw inspiration from many genres—what non-electronic influences are inspiring you the most right now?

Recently I’ve been heavily inspired by music from the 80s and 90s—the kind of tracks with big hooks, emotional chord progressions, and that unmistakable nostalgia. There’s a warmth and character in that era’s production that I find really refreshing and helps me refine my own sound. I’ve also been exploring more organic genres like acoustic and indie music, which help me think in a different way. Blending those influences with my sound gives me new ideas for groove, and emotion, and it keeps my productions feeling both modern and timeless.
