Andro is an Italian music artist, producer, and DJ, best known as the keyboardist for the renowned pop-rock band Negramaro. He began his journey as a classical pianist and gradually evolved into an eclectic and versatile producer. With a growing passion for electronic music, fashion film soundtracks, and sound design, he has collaborated with prominent artists, producers, labels, and brands both in Italy and internationally, standing out for his ability to blend genres and experiment with innovative sounds. Currently, he works with Zamna Records, where he has released several successful tracks, including his acclaimed remix of Benny Benassi’s "Satisfaction", and continues to reinvent himself, bringing his unique signature to every project.
"Cloud Walking" is your latest release in collaboration with Astrality and Lake Silver on Zamna Records. How did this collaboration come about, and what was the creative vision behind the track?
Astrality is an excellent producer, and we had wanted to work together for a while. He sent me a demo featuring a beautiful vocal line he had created with Lake Silver. I started working on an initial arrangement that could become an ideal hybrid between Zamna Records’ sound and his deep house style. Together, we finalized the track, which has been bringing us a lot of satisfaction.
Our goal was to create a "song" with a dreamy yet energetic vibe—perfect for being played in a DJ set at sunrise or sunset. This collaboration led us to continue working on more music together, and one of our upcoming tracks will soon be released on Selected Records.
You started as a classical pianist and are known as the keyboardist for Negramaro, yet you’ve built a strong presence in the electronic music scene. How do these two musical worlds coexist in your artistic journey?
Studying classical piano as a child helped me across all the different paths I’ve taken. Negramaro has always been a huge project, and through this journey with the band, I’ve gained a lot of experience in both production and live performance.
I’ve always been passionate about electronic music, in fact, early in my career I opened for legends like Jeff Mills, The Chemical Brothers, Fatboy Slim, Deadmau5, and even did an entire tour with The Prodigy. Whenever possible, I’ve tried to bring much of that background into the band as well.
I love experiencing music in all its different forms and always aim for quality in every context. For me, it’s essential to take every opportunity to make good music and, when possible, leave a mark.
Throughout your career, you’ve worked with a wide range of Italian and international artists, producers, and brands. Is there one project or collaboration that had a particularly deep impact on you as a producer?
Absolutely! There’s one experience that deeply and positively impacted me in the years that followed. It was the musical direction and production of a major event in Milan sponsored by Samsung in 2016.
I composed a 12-minute track that served as the soundtrack to one of the world’s largest laser shows, with 20,000 people attending this incredible performance featuring thousands of lasers synchronized to my music. I titled the track “Waveforms.”
That moment inspired the name of my studio, where I later built a creative team, founded a publishing company, a production agency, and developed many exciting collaborations.
Your remix of Benny Benassi’s iconic "Satisfaction" received great attention. What do you find most intriguing about reimagining such legendary tracks, and how do you balance honoring the original while bringing your own sound to it?
I’ve always had a passion for remixes. In fact, I’d say my journey as a producer started thanks to various remixes I did across different genres.
When ZSS and I started working on "Satisfaction", we initially thought it would just remain a bootleg, mainly because it’s such an iconic track, with constant requests for official remixes.
But when I spoke with Benny (whom I’d known for years), he got really excited about the idea of a melodic techno version, which hadn’t been done before.
The remix ended up receiving massive support from DJs and producers. I still remember when Simone (from Meduza) sent me a message saying that our remix had been listed for voting at the Grammys in the Best Remix category, it was such an amazing feeling.
Even more so because of the support and recognition from fellow Italian producers known worldwide, like Tale Of Us, Meduza, Fideles, and many others… not to mention Luca Pretolesi, who delivered an absolutely insane mix and master.
Your work often intersects with fashion, film, and sound design. How important is it for you to create a multi-sensory experience around your music?
Having diverse musical experiences has helped me feel comfortable working across different genres. Sometimes I think I’m too meticulous, but in the end, I believe that’s one of my defining traits.
Paying attention to detail, sound, and aesthetics is something I consider essential for any kind of music production, not just when it comes to fashion or cinema.
Quality always pays off in the long run.
