Eleonora: "The tracks felt like melancholy with a glimpse of hope"
Berlin based artist Eleonora is known to combine many genres like drone, indie, techno and downtempo in her own productions. The style and the singer-songwriting as well as the timbre of the voice has become a trademark of Eleonora now recognizable by many.
Can you tell us how your collaboration with Citizen Kain for your recent EP on UNSEEN Recordings came about? What was the inspiration behind the tracks included in the EP?
When Citizen Cain sent me the tracks, I immediately felt it. I guess also because it was something different from usual melodic techno. The tracks felt like melancholy with a glimpse of hope, so the lyrics and melodies came the same way from my side. There was not much back and forth, one record - go!
Your single “Living a Lie” recently received a series of remixes on Wout Records. How did you select the artists for the remixes, and what was your reaction upon hearing their interpretations of the track?
I selected artists only partially, some I knew from before, like Jelly For The Babies & Plecta. Really wanted to know what beauty they could create, which they did! Wout records did a very nice job finding a crazy variety of artists, each of which brought their unique touch. I felt surprised how much could be done of the track and happy, of course, all versions rock!
Berlin is renowned for its vibrant electronic music scene. How has the city influenced your style and creative process as a DJ and producer?
I guess I'll never know for sure. I came to Berlin in the age of 15. I always dreamt to do electronic music and experiment with sound. Berlin gave me this opportunity and so it started. The shift I personally see is playing less in bands (which I did in the beginning, and still miss a lot!), and doing more solo electronic music. Also getting heavy in sound, this is definitely Berlin's grey sky influence :)
What are the main challenges you've faced as an emerging artist in the electronic music scene, and how have you overcome them?
Where to begin... haha. First challenge - labels not listening, not answering or aswering in 1 year. You cannot really fully overcome this, but releasing on your own, doing collaboration helps establishing connections to the labels, seing actual emails you can use for demo. Second - production & mixing. Is my track good enough? This never ends but it is also good. Keep learning, keep trying out. Third - being 'soloed-out-' as a singer or vocalist only. I did the most sound design, production & composing of vox in collabs and features, besides producing several years my own tracks from start to finish. Those were my main challenges, but there are of course plenty more. Patience and stubbornness are the key. Bad mood, good mood - keep it on and things will happen.
Looking to the future, what are your upcoming projects and collaborations that we can expect to see from you in the coming months?
Solo tracks on Outer Space Oasis in July, on Underyourskin records in August, Katermukke and Jannowitz Records in October from what is confirmed. Soundwise from soft to hard - this I can tell you. Definitely bunch of feat. and collabs, dates always change, so, keep you eyes and ears open :)
