LENny (IT): "Music became my anchor and lifeline"
Lorenzo Lorenzi aka LENny (IT), is a DJ and music producer born in 1990 in Romagna, Italy, with a deep passion for electronic music from a young age. At just seventeen, he began his career performing at Titilla in Cocoricò, which marked the start of an incredible journey that led him to play at renowned venues such as Sankeys in Ibiza, Macarena in Barcelona, Output in New York, and Clevelander in Miami, as well as many clubs along the iconic Romagna Riviera.
Hi Lorenzo, your career started quite early, with performances at legendary venues like Cocoricò when you were just 17. How did you experience those first steps in the electronic music world, and which moment from that time stands out the most for you?
It all started very early for me, and while I may have made some mistakes with connections and style back then, those experiences shaped who I am today. Now, in my 30s, I focus much more on the quality of the music and crafting unique sets that truly connect with the audience on a deeper level. One standout moment for me was the boat parties I hosted in Rimini—dancing at sunset with the city lights and the fresh sea air created an unforgettable vibe.
You've spent a lot of time performing in cities like Ibiza, Barcelona, New York, and Miami. Is there one music scene that has inspired you the most, or that you feel most connected to in terms of your style?
New York City has been a huge source of inspiration for me. While its music scene might not perfectly align with my style, the energy here is unmatched. The skyline, the vibrant culture, and the diversity of the people create an atmosphere that fuels creativity in a way no other city can. I moved here for exactly that reason—there’s truly nothing like it. NYC has a rhythm of its own, and it pushes me to evolve constantly, both as an artist and as a person.
Your new single "Power" was released on Lekke Records. What does this track represent for you, and how does it fit into the musical journey you've been on so far?
"Power" holds a special place for me. The vocal comes from an incredibly talented singer I discovered during the COVID period—a time when my mind felt distant, but music became my anchor and lifeline. That period changed everything for me. It pushed me to reset my musical connections and explore a new identity, which is reflected in this track. It’s a milestone in my journey, capturing both personal growth and creative evolution.
As a DJ and producer who's had international experience, how do you see the evolution of electronic music in recent years? What influences do you bring into your sound today?
The evolution of electronic music has been fascinating. I think the shift began when people realized that rhythm alone wasn’t enough—melodies have become the centerpiece of popular tracks. We’ve moved from long, beat-heavy versions to shorter, radio-friendly tracks with rich melodies and captivating vocals. Vocals are now essential, and there’s been a big shift from EDM to genres like deep house and afro house. This movement feels like the future of electronic music, and I’m excited to be part of it, bringing these influences into my sound.
How do you prepare for a live performance, whether you're playing at an intimate club or a large arena? Do you have any rituals or strategies that help you connect with the audience and give your best on stage?
For me, preparation is all about connection and curation. First, I focus on the people—understanding where they’re from, what they enjoy, and how I can create a set that not only makes them dance but also resonates deeply, making them feel cozy and connected to the rhythm. Second, I dive into my music library. I usually spend the two days before a gig downloading fresh tracks, organizing them into playlists in Rekordbox, and rating them to highlight the best ones. Then, I test them out, set cue points, and refine my USB pack to ensure I’m bringing the hottest and most meaningful tracks to the stage.
