Max Cooper returns with new album "On Being"

London-based audiovisual artist Max Cooper is preparing to return with his seventh studio album, titled "On Being", set for release in the coming months. After six albums since 2007, Cooper continues to enrich the electronic music scene with his deep and complex compositions, increasingly focused on exploring the concept of humanity. The album, which will be released on his label Mesh, will feature 14 new tracks that promise to captivate both fans and new listeners.

"On Being" stands out for the unique creative process Cooper adopted. Instead of drawing exclusively from his inner world, as he often does in his projects, the artist sought to include external voices. For two years, he collected reflections from his audience, using anonymous quotes in response to questions such as, "What is it like to exist inside your head"? or "What would you like to express but can't in everyday life"? Cooper’s aim is clear: to create a sonic portrait of the contemporary human being, crafting a work that reflects emotions, fears, hopes, and dreams.

The album’s concept revolves around understanding the human experience in the present moment. The audience's responses provided Cooper with material to transform these emotions into sound, creating a dialogue between artist and listeners that transcends traditional boundaries of musical expression. Cooper seeks to translate the ideas and feelings that emerge from his interaction with the public into music, once again demonstrating how electronic music can be a powerful emotional vehicle.

Ahead of the album’s release comes the new EP "True Under Certain Conditions", offering a glimpse of what to expect from "On Being". The EP consists of two tracks, each with its own well-defined identity. The title track, "True Under Certain Conditions", is about four and a half minutes long, characterized by a dark atmosphere influenced by techno and acid elements, with progressive sounds developing throughout the piece. The second track, "The Sun In A Box", presents a significant contrast: with a duration of almost eleven minutes, it offers a more meditative experience, a downtempo filled with electro sounds that invites reflection and inner journeying.

Both tracks showcase Cooper’s skill in crafting pieces that not only explore complex soundscapes but also convey strong emotions. These two tracks will be part of the full album, heightening anticipation for "On Being", an album that promises to be a unique exploration of humanity and its complexities.

The release of the album "On Being" will follow in February 2025 as a triple gatefold 12" – limited edition 140 g clear vinyl or as a triple gatefold 12" – 180 g black vinyl, and digitally. The vinyl pre-order includes digital downloads, which will be sent starting from the release date. You will receive two tracks immediately.

A music video for a modified version of "The Sun In a Box" was released a few days ago, featuring visuals and artwork by Andy Lomas, a British visual artist.

Max Cooper’s continuous evolution, spanning minimal, techno, and house, is clearly evident in this project. The artist doesn’t simply create music but intertwines sounds, images, and concepts in a narrative that seeks to push the boundaries of electronic music. With "On Being", Cooper once again establishes himself as an innovator and a prominent figure in the contemporary music scene, capable of connecting technology to the depths of human emotion.
