Sasha presents "Da Vinci Genius"
Sasha, the iconic figure in dance music has announced an upcoming traveling art exhibition titled "Da Vinci Genius", dedicated to the works of renaissance artist Leonardo da Vinci. This exhibition offers a retrospective look at Da Vinci's life and works, combining classic themes with cutting-edge technology. The paintings will be projected using artificial intelligence, creating a unique experience where famous portraits, like the Mona Lisa, are manipulated electronically, appearing as digital fragments and featuring visual glitches.
In conjunction with the exhibition, Sasha has collaborated on a soundtrack consisting of 17 tracks, set to be released on November 29 through Night Time Stories. This album continues his project from 2016, "Scene Delete", which featured an imagined soundtrack for a film. The "Da Vinci Genius" album merges classical music with electronic production, drawing influences from classic film scores and contemporary composers such as Stanley Kubrick, Nils Frahm, Jon Hopkins, Steve Reich, Vangelis, and Jean Michel Jarre.
Sasha also included medieval choral music from the renaissance composer Josquin des Pres, which inspired some of the more atmospheric sections of the project.
Sasha and his team had not seen the exhibition when they began creating the soundtrack, but they worked closely with the design team, Flora and Fauna Visions, using briefs and mood boards to envision the final result. Sasha described this process as a stimulating way to work, emphasizing the need for music that could support and enhance the visual experience of the exhibition. "I really wanted to take something classic and flip it make it modern", he remarked.
The exhibition first premiered in Berlin in 2021, followed by a showing in Amsterdam the next year. It is now scheduled to move to Florida and India later this year, with more details to be announced. Sasha, dubbed "God's Son" by Mixmag in 1994, will perform at the Amsterdam Dance Event on October 19, with upcoming shows in Colombia—Barranquilla on November 2 and Medellin on November 3—followed by a stop in ItajaÃ, Brazil on November 15, and Denver on December 28.
