What were your main inspirations behind "Hell’s Angels"?

I generally find inspiration as I go along throughout the production process. I’ll make a synth sound that I have in mind and I’ll lay down a catchy melody and go from there. I’ll add layers and a bassline and then the track just falls into place. This track was no different. Once I had the drop made, I knew exactly how I wanted the build-ups to sound. I added some samples to add tension in the second break and that was that.

How would you describe the evolution of your musical style throughout your career?

Melody has always been the main thing for me. I’ve always been drawn to the melodic side of dance music (and other music genres in general), be it a vocal melody or a euphoric synth layer.

The likes of melodic house, prog house, melodic techno and (melodic) breakbeat have always resonated with me. However, these genres tend to be on the slower side of the spectrum. I’ve always been into the groove and rhythms of some of the faster driving techno tracks and hard groove. Because of this I find myself pumping the BPM up a touch. I would say my tracks / sets have gotten slightly faster in recent times.

What challenges did you face while working with Venus Records on your latest release?

Smilax (Venus) Records have always been pretty easy to work with. The release of this track was smooth and the artwork they made for the track was very fitting. I have released with them many times and I have some more tracks scheduled for release with them in the near future.

Can you share anything about your upcoming projects or collaborations?

I have some tracks made with some other Irish melodic techno DJs that will be coming out very soon. I feel our styles matched well and I’m excited to get them out. I also have an official remix of an iconic trance tune in the works with Smilax as well. Lastly, I also have tracks coming out with my own vocals on them. I’ve always wrote my own lyrics to my tracks but I have previously worked with other vocalists. I’m stoked to have tunes with my own vocals scheduled for release soon.

How do you see the electronic music scene in Sydney and Australia in general?

Like any major city, Sydney has many clubs with various different vibes. My favourite club here is Carousel. It has a top tier sound system and I’ve seen a few of my favourite DJs there. Oxford Art Factory and Tiva are cool too. I’ve been to and DJ’d at a few beach raves here too and Sydney is a great place for it. I’ve played at a few boat parties here also and they seem to be quite popular here. I do think it’s quite hard to break out of Sydney as a DJ though, compared to other major cities. I will be moving to Melbourne in the coming months as I’ve only heard great things about the electronic music scene there.
