YouTube tests new AI feature for song remixes in Shorts
YouTube is testing a new feature that allows creators to use AI to remix licensed songs in their Shorts. Only a select group of creators can access the tool, which generates 30-second tracks based on mood and genre through YouTube's Dream Track AI.
The remixed tracks will be clearly attributed to the original artists and labeled as AI-generated. Artists like Charli XCX, Demi Lovato, and John Legend are participating. While YouTube is negotiating with major labels like Warner, Universal, and Sony, it’s unclear how many songs will be available for remixing.
This feature comes amid growing concerns about AI's impact on the music industry, with predictions that AI could threaten musicians' earnings by 2028.
