Curol: "My music reflects what I carry inside"

Curol is a leading figure in the rise of electronic music and a key player in the female revolution in the industry. Known for her avant-garde style, she has become a reference in afro house, blending organic elements like Brazilian percussion with house music's rhythmic energy. In 2022, she performed at major festivals such as Rock in Rio and Universo Paralello. Curol won the WME Award for Best DJ in 2021 and was featured in 1001 Tracklists' "The Future of Dance" list in 2021 and 2022.

Your remix of "Ogum" for 3030 on the OGUM label reflects a deep connection to your Brazilian roots and Afro House. How did you translate the symbolism and energy of "Ogum" into your unique sound?

Ogum is associated with paths, the opening of new routes and the search for truth. In many African mythologies, Ogum is portrayed as the Orisha who opens paths, removes obstacles and prepares the ground for people to move forward with confidence. The song expresses this idea of opening paths.

You’ve graced iconic stages like Rock in Rio and Tomorrowland Brasil, as well as international events such as ADE and Zamna. Which experience has had the greatest impact on you, and why?

All major festivals bring a great return for the artist and of course more visibility, but without a doubt playing at Zamna Tulum in Mexico opening for Keinemusik, who are currently the most hyped artists, opened many doors for me in the international market.

You’ve been awarded at the WME Awards and recognized for several years by 1001Tracklists. How do you maintain such a strong connection to the global music scene while staying true to your Brazilian roots?

I think that precisely because I have this identity and representation in a fixed way, I stand out on the global scene, because I end up becoming a reference, modesty aside.

2024 marked a significant milestone in your career with your Eurasia tour and ADE debut. How have these experiences influenced your creative process and artistic vision?

It is an artistic analysis between the objective and his response, where I can improve and what I can continue doing, it sharpens the experience better.

Tracks like "Deixa Fluir" and your remix of "Nocturne" have topped the charts internationally. What are the challenges and emotions behind creating music that resonates so strongly with a global audience?

Within the four walls of a studio, what I have inside me are my feelings and beliefs. I never know how far this sensitivity that I convey through music can go, so when it bursts a bubble, I overflow inside. Today I face a problem which is the lack of time versus the number of gigs, but I try my best to give the best of myself internally so that my songs have soul.bubble, I overflow inside.
